My Desert Getaway
A couple of weeks ago I went on a road trip to a VERY hot place. It is a place full of sand, blue skies and tons of these funny-looking plants with spikes all over them. Yup, I went to the Anza Borrego Desert! I was on a hunt for the beautiful desert flowers that were beginning to bloom. (Well, I must admit, I wasn't alone. Avi, Abuela, and Mom went too...as my assistants)
Every good desert hiker needs their cute desert gear:
First, I surveyed the land. What a gorgeous day! Where would I take them first?
First stop ...this beautiful ramada to have some lunch. I needed some energy so I could lead my assistants to the right spots.
After lunch, I began to feel a little overheated. As I began my hunt for desert flowers, I came across this amphitheater. It only made sense that I get on stage and say thanks to the sun, for giving me so much heat. And, I asked Mr. Sun to tone it down a little.

I couldn't resist putting on a little impromptu performance for all my desert flora and fauna. (Who goes on stage and doesn't perform?!!)
I asked my assistants to drive me to the main street where all the flowers would be. But instead we found something very unexpected....miles and miles of citrus groves!! Avi couldn't believe his eyes! We still don't understand how they grow fruit in the desert, but we'll have to ponder that engineering marvel another day.

Okay, so off to Plan B. I would be leading the troops this time.
Score! We found these beautiful flowers on a Barrel Cactus.
I was so excited! Off to find more desert flowers!

Yay! We found a pair of flowers on the Beavertail Cactus.

At this point in the tour, my assistants really couldn't keep up with me anymore. I had to push the stroller. Can you believe that?!
And here you can behold the beauty of one of Avi and Abuela's favorite desert plants, the Ocotillo.
My assistants were so impressed with all of my desert knowledge that they asked if they could take a picture of me, for posterity, of course.

p.s. Thanks a lot, Mr. Sun, for never toning down your heat levels.

Well, as much as I'd love to have been able to continue the tour into the night, I needed a break.
All Done!
As the day came to an end, I handed over the map to my assistants and it was time for me to rest my eyes....

p.s. Thanks a lot, Mr. Sun, for never toning down your heat levels.
