Mommy Needs Pain Relief

By the time we arrived at the hospital,  Maria's contractions were taking her breath away and coming with a fierceness unfamiliar to her.  At this point she was certain that she was at least 6cm.  To her dismay, the nurse told her she was a whopping 3cm and that if she didn't get to 4cm in the next hour she would be sent home.

Following the check of Maria's dilation, the nurse continued to ask routine administrative questions one of which was a question about our birth plan. I looked at Maria.  She looked back at me with a purposeful gaze and without hesitation she told the nurse "Our birth plan is drugs". The nurse laughed but Maria was not joking.  It only took a couple more seconds for Maria's follow up question. "When can I get the epidural".


 But to Maria's credit, the pain was bad.  Back labor on top of contractions is difficult and this soon to be mommy needed some pain relief....stat!

Is Today the Day?

We were thinking Sara was going to be a lot like her parents, fashionably late.  She was due on Maria's birthday, January 16.  Contractions at 2am early Saturday morning??  Could this be the real thing? They were, but the real pain wasn't to start until later in the day.  So it was, off to the hospital at 4pm.
